Rotator Cuff Related Shoulder

This can be caused by inflammation and swelling of soft tissue within the shoulder joint. The soft tissue involved includes the tendon of a rotator cuff muscle which passes through the joint space and/or a bursa (a fluid filled sac) which sits within the joint to reduce friction between the tendonand bone. They commonly become inflamed and swollen due to overuse or an impact injury. Pain and weakness are often present and can be seen when lifting the arm above shoulder height. This is because the movement naturally narrows the joint space and the inflamed soft tissue is pinched by the two bones that make up the joint.

This condition can also be caused by a narrowing of the joint space due to poor posture, bony spurs and arthritis. A Physiotherapist can manage this condition very effectively with a Comprehensive Assessment, Manual Therapy, Exercise Therapy, postural correction, and education.
