At our clinic, we offer a range of techniques designed to restore, maintain, and enhance your movement capabilities while relieving pain and improving your overall quality of life. Our sports massage sessions are tailored to your specific needs, addressing areas of concern with precision and expertise.

During your visit, we begin with a thorough assessment, delving into your background history to identify the root cause of your discomfort or injury. Based on this evaluation, we employ various specialised techniques, including sports massage, manipulation, mobilisations, stretching, and taping. These interventions are carefully selected to suit your individual requirements and support your body’s natural healing process.

Sports massage, in particular, plays a crucial role in promoting both physical and mental well-being for athletes and individuals engaged in regular physical activities. Some of the key benefits of sports massage include:

1. Improved Circulation: Sports massage aids in enhancing blood flow, delivering vital nutrients and oxygen to muscles, facilitating faster recovery and reducing muscle soreness.
2. Injury Prevention: Regular sports massage can help identify and address potential issues before they become serious injuries, allowing for early intervention and prevention.

3. Increased Flexibility: Through targeted stretching and manipulation techniques, sports massage can improve muscle flexibility and joint range of motion, contributing to better athletic performance.

4. Stress Reduction: Beyond physical benefits, sports massage is known for its relaxation effects, reducing stress and anxiety levels, leading to an improved sense of well-being.

5. Pain Relief: Sports massage helps alleviate muscle tension and soreness, easing pain and discomfort caused by overuse or strenuous physical activities.

6. Enhanced Performance: By optimising muscle function and reducing restrictions, sports massage can boost athletic performance and contribute to achieving your fitness goals.

Our Sports Massage Therapists not only focus on immediate relief but also provide valuable advice on maintaining a healthy lifestyle. We identify potential lifestyle issues that might contribute to your condition, and offer guidance on correcting factors like overtraining, rest, and work-related habits.

Massage is the practise of the movement and manipulation of the muscles, ligaments and joints. There are many versions of massage therapy, but ultimately all the different therapies have one common goal – to work with the soft tissues of the body to have an effect on both the mind and the body.

So what is sports massage? This version of massage therapy focuses in on assisting in the correction body imbalances and or pain in soft tissues that is caused from repetitive and strenuous activity or trauma.

This could be simply that you have worked in the same position for years and your body over time has used some muscles more than others, causing tension that leads to discomfort. Or just that you have increased your training quickly and your body hasn’t quite adapted to the new demands.

This is not to say that the techniques used within sports massage differ from those used in Swedish or hot stone massage for example, they are in the most part the same. But the differences lie in the focus which is to target a specific area to restore balance in the muscular system and reduce pain. This means that there is less ‘flow’ to the massage, with some muscles or joints receiving more attention as needed, or focusing on the right side more than the left. There may also be other techniques included such as stretch therapy, myofascial cupping or neuromuscular work.

So is sports massage for you? Yes! Contrary to what people think, sports massage isn’t just for those that are participating in sport or exercise. It is for anyone who is in need to focused and specific work in an area that is feeling discomfort or pain.
