Neck and Back Pain

Poor Posture

This is a very common cause of back and neck pain and this can be managed through postural correction, education, manual therapy, exercise therapy and sports massage.

Muscle Imbalance
This is also very commonly is linked to poor posture. This is where one muscle group is stronger and quite often shorter than the opposing muscle group. For example, the abdominal muscles are stronger and shorter than the lower back muscles resulting in a forward flexed posture. This can be managed through manual therapy, exercise therapy strengthening and stretching, education, sports massage and postural correction.

Nerve Irritation
Nerve irritation in the neck and back can lead to the referral of pain, tingling, pin and needles or numbness into your arms, hands, buttock, legs and feet. Mild irritation can cause high levels of pain and discomfort. With early physiotherapy intervention these symptoms can be effectively managed preventing longer term problems developing. Manual therapy, exercise therapy, postural correction, and education are very effective forms of treatment.

Sedentary Lifestyle
This is one of the leading causes of many aches and pains throughout the body. The body was designed for and requires regular movement to function efficiently. Regular and prolonged periods of sitting or lying down causes joints to become stiff and muscles to become weak leading to aches and pains in many areas of the body, especially the back and neck. These aches and pains can be managed very effectively with support from a physiotherapist. We can do this through manual therapy, exercise therapy, education, and sports massage.
