3 Tips to Have More Energy
Do you feel constantly zapped of energy?
Sometimes you can have the best of intentions to work out. You eat a hearty meal beforehand, drink a coffee for a boost of energy and put on your workout clothes but then you just feel weak and fatigued.
Why do I feel so weak? Why can’t I do more squats or press ups? On other days I can do so much more and lift so much heavier.
What’s going on?
Possible Causes and How to Fix
Lack of Exercise
Maybe you’ve just been on holiday, or you’ve missed several days or maybe just been ill.
Even a week away from your routine can have you feeling sluggish and weak.
Fix
- Set a timer for 3 minutes and work out until the timer runs out.
- Next day, 6 minutes.
- Next day, 9 minutes.
FYI, on each day, if you want to continue you can but don’t overdo it. Overdoing it means lifting too heavy, or doing too many sets or exercising for too long. Remember, you need to ease yourself back into it. Yes, it is incredibly frustrating but you’ll get back to where you were.
Not Enough Carbs
This is a toughy because working out while in a calorie deficit is a fine balancing act.
You want to lose weight but also eat enough to have a good workout.
And I’ll have you know that your body’s primary energy source is glucose (which comes from carbs).
Fix
Schedule your biggest amount of carbs a couple hours before your workout so that you’re properly fuelled. Think rice cakes, rice crispy bars, bananas, oranges, apples, porridge. And if you’re partial to sweets, save them for just before your workout for a kick of energy. And make sure to drink water.
Going Too Hard Every Day
When you do work out you sweat, you breathe heavy and you feel fatigued later when you walk up the stairs.
Then the next day you can’t make it past 5 minutes of exercise and you think about having another coffee or another snack. Then when that doesn’t work either you call the whole thing off and go shower.
Fix
Don’t do more than two hard sessions in a row.
Take at least 1 to 2 rest days a week where you just do gentle exercise.
Rather than not exercising at all YouTube search ‘yoga’ and follow along with someone or go and knock out 1000 steps with a walk. (You’ll probably do more
) Heck, just blast your favourite tunes and dance.
