There are so many health myths out there and you may wonder what is true and what isn’t. So let’s get some of the facts straight !
1. Don’t eat carbs after dark because it’ll make you fat
False – it doesn’t matter when you eat your carbs.
Though it is recommended that the average person should be eating around 60g of carbs before your workout so you’re properly fuelled and ready to give that workout all that you have got !
2. Avoid eating fat because it’ll make you fat
False – only eating above your maintenance calories will make you gain weight if you’re not burning those extra calories.
You absolutely do need to have at least 30g of fat per day just for your health and hormones.
3. The more you sweat, the more fat you’ll lose
False – maybe it’s just hot.
If you’re sweating more you are probably burning more calories but it’s not a direct correlation. The more you sweat, the more water weight you lose, but then you’ll probably just drink it back.
You can expend the same amount of energy in 5 minutes or in 50 minutes and the amount you sweat won’t make a difference.
4. Crunches make belly fat go away
Sorry but false – crunches work your abs but we can’t spot target fat.
We gradually lose fat from the whole body over time and unfortunately can’t choose those spots.
It is important to remember the reasons you exercise and try and be fit and healthy. Not only does it make us feel better with how we look, it’s great for our mental health and well-being. Any bit of exercise or movement is good for us, so ignore the myths, do what you enjoy and eat what you like – obviously within moderation and get up, get out and move that body !
