Physio’s are great coaches too!

You may see us as therapists who treat your injury and fix the problem using our hands. However, this is just one part to our skill set. Coaching is also a pivotal role that we can play in your recovery.

Often when dealing with an injury you will have to learn how to do things differently. For example; learning to walk again, pacing yourself, or maybe using a walking aid. All of which you are not used to and may not be able get your head around on your own. We can help by coaching you to do those things in the most effective way.

Not only does coaching come in handy when learning a new practical skill, but also when learning how to manage your pain effectively. This might be learning about medication, applying heat or ice at the right time, or knowing when to push through pain, and when to hold back. Pain can be very depressing, demotivating, and can affect your ability to think straight. That is why we can coach you through the process of managing it at each stage of your recovery.

Physio’s also have a great knowledge of exercise and how to design a rehabilitation programme for many conditions. This is a unique skill set that most other exercise professional might struggle with as exercising during the healing process is rather tricky. Knowing when to progress and regress your programme takes skill and specialist knowledge. Luckily we can coach you through this from start to finish.

These are just a few examples of how physio’s can be great coaches and ultimately be adaptable to your needs. We listen to your story; where it all began and where you want to get to. We individualise our approach to your situation accordingly.

Think of Physio’s as more than just a treatment, we are professionals with wide ranging knowledge, a passion to help you achieve your goals and not to forget GREAT COACHES.
